BOTOX® Cosmetic is an FDA-approved, non-surgical injectable that reduces or eliminates the appearance of fine lines, forehead lines, crow’s feet and frown lines. Properly injected BOTOX® Cosmetic simply diminishes the movement of specific muscles that cause your skin to crease and have the appearance of lines and wrinkles. BOTOX® Cosmetic allows your skin a smooth, refreshed appearance while still allowing a natural look.
BOTOX® Cosmetic received FDA approval in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows in people 18 to 65 years of age.
How long will a treatment last? The effects from BOTOX® Cosmetic can last three to six months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles can be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. We recommend a follow-up appointment with your Réviance provider 3-4 months after your treatment to assess your progress. Just because Botox lasts for 3-6 months does not mean that you need to get retreated every 3-6 months! Many patients get treated with Botox just once a year with acceptable improvements.
Will my facial expressions continue to look natural?Although the results are visible, treatment with BOTOX® Cosmetic should not radically change your facial appearance. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you are still able to frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.
